The lighthouse was almost scrapped in the early 1960s after an automated system rendered lighthouse keepers
a thing of the past. The original structure cost $20,000 to build. It cost about $26,000 to move. It was cut in
two pieces and reassembled after a 60 mile trip. It was cut at the over hang between the 1st and 2nd floors.
