Introduction to Design and Layout
(16 hours)

Course Description
This course will introduce basic design principles and layout theory for a variety of projects. You will explore creative design, composition and visual impact. You will also work with a variety of layout styles to include print and web design. Prerequisites: Successful completion of Introduction to Drawing and Introduction to Color. (Text is included with course fee)


Performance-Based Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

· Understand basic design principles and terminology
· Understand the basic design process
· Understand design challenges and approaches
· Apply basic typography techniques
· Create effective print and web projects

Lesson 4: Projects - Lab
· Logo basics
· Business printing - business cards, letterhead, envelopes and forms
· Basic ad design
· Newsletters and Brochures
· Flyers and Posters
· Web design
